Bay Play

In 2007 the Torbay Play Forum were awarded a Big Lottery grant:

- this is to develop play opportunities in Torbay and support the delivery of the Torbay Play Strategy.

The Bay Play Rangers are working in 8 localities around the Bay which have been identified as being in great need, by consultation with local children/young people, community members, community action groups, the police, housing associations and Children's Services. This service offers play opportunities in locations across Torbay identified because of issues related to children playing safely within their own neighbourhoods.

The areas include; Foxhole, Watcombe, Willows, Hele, Ellacombe, Monastry Woods, Brewery Park and Shiphay.

The Bay Play Rangers venture out in the parks and open spaces of Torbay come rain or shine, providing free open access play provision for young people aged 5-14 years. There are now four qualified, police checked Play Rangers providing a safe, stimulating environment for children in which they can learn to facilitate their own play. Usha Garretley, Bay Play Ranger
