![]() Creative Play Journeys brings the relationship between creativity and play with practitioners and to inspire and enable children and young people take creative ownership Creative Play Journeys provide: • CREATIVE OPPORTUNITY; over 200 young people and 34 practitioners are involved with Creative Play Journeys each year • CREATIVE CONFIDENCE; the project introduces children and young people to new creative ideas and encourages them to flex their creative muscles. At the same time it helps practitioners cultivate their own creative practice. • CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP; working in partnership with the practitioners artists support and encourage creative practice Each year a group of young people called FUNK (The Film Us Now Krew) work in partnership with the artists and the Torbay Play Forum to document and develop the project. Over the course of 7 months, participants who support the wide variety of groups, ranging in size from 10 and up to 40 young people, are offered comprehensive professional development. This includes the opportunity of workshops, a two day training course and two full day sessions where artists work alongside them and provide a variety of tools and materials to make it work! The project is devised and coordinated by the Torbay Play Forum, an independent charity whose primary purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of play in children’s lives and provide a range of free accessible opportunities to play. Creative Play Journeys is a three year project funded through the National Lottery Playful Ideas programme. Community artists have a natural understanding about the need to support and encourage creativity and not to take over. Playworkers can be less confident and are supported by the artists. They are also inspired by the imaginative responses of children they know well and the way they respond to the challenges. Creative Play Journeys will develop the project to include staff training before, during and after the creative arts involvement. The intention is to build this into playworkers’ training as part of their continuous professional development. Creative Play Journeys 2010 The quest to find the Lost Land of Play ![]() This year the Moveable Feast workshop company which comprises visual artists, performers, musicians, writers and dancers will be working with nine different groups from around Torbay. They have boldly responded to join the ‘Quest to find the lost land of Play in the magical land of Sharpoom’ The groups involved are from: The Torbay Young Carers The Torbay Play Rangers Tom Thumb Nursery and Holiday Club Roselands Holiday Club Hayes Holiday Club Krafty Kids Holiday Club The Acorn Centre The Junior Street Wardens The PHAB Club Starting during the June half term holiday groups will join the Creative Play Journey and become heroes in their own adventure with artistic and imaginative challenges. Transport will be provided to Sharpham. Those involved include a wide range of children and young people of different ages and with different experiences so that each journey is tailor-made and developed by the Moveable Feast artists and the young people themselves. No one journey will be the same. This year there are three lead artists developing the Creative Play Journeys concept. They are Tony Gee, Roz Hilton and Rich Lea. On each journey there will also be members of FUNK 2010. FUNK (Film Us Now Krew) are a group of young people who work alongside the Torbay Play Forum to report back on what young people think about the opportunities and activities on offer and document what happens. For the latest Creative Play Newletter two members of FUNK 2010 went to meet two of the lead artists for the Moveable Feast to find out what makes an artist tick... click here to read their interview: funk This years Creative Play Journeys are being delivered at Sharpham. The Sharpham Estate occupies a large bend in the River Dart downstream from Totnes. It has vineyards and a dairy and produces well known cheese and wine. it is also a Trust whichhas a magnificent house and grounds and is hosting our Creative Play Journey quests as ‘Sharpoom, the Lost Land of Play’. Documenting play is vital to the evolution and sustainability of play and the Torbay Play Forum, keen to support young people and practitioners with practical tools and documention skills brought two leading South West Community artists to Torbay to share their experience with the young members of FUNK and 32 practitioners from around the bay. This is what they did; on Wednesday 26 May 2010 from 7.00 – 9.00pm This workshop is for you if: • You want to explore new approaches to documenting observations • You are delivering EYFS • You are inspected by Ofsted • Above all, you are interested in ow children can be at the centre of influencing change It’s FREE but you must let us know you are coming Playing Creatively is being developed alongside Creative Play Journeys - participants on creative play journeys are helping us pilot training concepts designed to support practitioners working with children and young people 4-16 with information, inspiration and ideas to play creatively. workshop providers: Torbay Film Club is a not-for-profit group run by volunteers who want to see the finest independent and world cinema, in Torbay. Films are shown on a monthly basis and are open to members and non-members. We’re keen to make the screenings as sociable as possible, and before and after the films there will be an opportunity to have a drink and a chat about the film, whether you come on your own or with friends. The films we are showing were voted for democratically by our members and the committee, and we’ve made sure in the season there is a mixture of English language and subtitled films, with at least one ‘classic’ (pre-1985) film. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing with you our enthusiasm for films. We are always looking for additional volunteers who have some time to spare and would like to get involved. If you would like to get more involved please drop us an email at admin@torbayfilmclub.co.uk.
