FUNK are here to make sure everyone knows what the activities in Torbay are really like. They are the Film Us Now Krew. Here's our mission:

FUNK 2010 go live: This year we have recruited x16 new members of FUNK. Most of them participated in Creative Play Journeys last year when they came along with their playscheme or youth project . This year they have become the Watchers, their quest: To document the journey to discover the lost land of play...

For the CPJ Newsletter - May 2010 Two members of FUNK 2010 – Ayesha aged 8, Alice aged 8 became               investigative journalists and went along to meet members of Moveable Feast.                                              Here is the first interview with Roz.

Roz Hilton is an artist playworker and workshop

leader, who works with people of all ages to enable
expression and appreciation through creativity.
She is interested in using the natural environment to
inspire curiosity and wonder, and experimenting
through play, storytelling, dance, arts and crafts,
drama, puppetry and poetry. She has been working
in theatre and playwork for many years, and knows a
lot about using games and materials as a
springboard to creative play...

Ayesha: What made you want to entertain people?

Roz: I didn't think reading and writing was fun. I wanted to show off, do fun things. I didn't reallythink of wanting to entertain people, wanted to pretend to be something I was not.

Alice: Is it exciting being an artist?

Roz. Yes. You never know how your day is going to go. I might be dressing up, painting faces... It
always keeps me excited.

Ayesha: Did you have any other jobs before you became an artist? If so, did you like what you did?

Roz: Yes, I worked in childcare, as a nanny, I worked in shops, factories and in the theatre both
as a performer and behind the scenes.

Alice: What do you do as an artist?

Roz: All kinds of stuff: performing. Helping people play together more creatively, storytelling,
puppetry, arts and crafts, poetry....

Ayesha: Of all those, which is your favourite?

Roz: That's REALLY difficult.... I like working with
people one to one. It is more difficult for me in a
group.

Alice: Are you like a big kid?

Roz: [laughs]
Yes!

Ayesha: What would Simon Cowell say to you if
you performed in front of him
on Britain's Got
Talent”?

Roz: I can't sing, so he'd probably say that I was
rubbish! I am taking up singing lessons now for
a new project, it’s very exciting and very scary at the same time!

Alice: What's your estimate on how many people you have amazed?

Roz: I don't know! [laughs] Let's say at least one person every day on average.

Alice: How did you join Moveable Feast?

Roz, Much after it started. In 2005. A notice went out for more people to join so I sent in a Treasure Hunt
as an application, where Tony had to follow clues in the envelopes and my CV was written in tiny letters
on a leaf.... I did some workshops and now I am involved in the project.

Ayesha: Where do you get your stories from?

Roz: Stories are everywhere. I have been learning about old school stories, they are very powerful, like
legends. New stories come from everywhere and you also make them up.

Alice: How old were you when you became an
artist?

Roz: An artist is anyone who doesn't stick to the
rules. I didn't like school, uniforms, so I've been an
artist since forever!

Alice: Do you enjoy your job?

Roz: It's fun, creative but sometimes it is very tiring: long hours, no set times.

Ayesha: What made you feel inside you were an
artist?

Roz: Other people calling me an artist and when I
did things others weren’t expecting...

CREATIVE PLAY JOURNEYS 2009

This is Shawns Evaluation of the Quality in Play of the Friday Night Projects Creative Play Journey 27-July-2009

The highest score in each catergory is achieved through hitting bulls eye - so today Moveable Feast and the Friday Night Project done good...

Sara & Joe evaluated the YMCA's Creative Play Journey on 28-July-2009 and experienced very different elements of the day:

"My experience today was different to other peoples, as I didn't go out in the woods in the afternoon. I was in the truck making a cinema." Sara  "I spent most of my time in the woods" Joe

For Sara and Annoshka the Special Needs Playschemes (SNPS) Creative Play Journey  - Thursday 30-July-2009  scored very high marks

Maya decided to use the evaluation sheet the other way round -  so the outer sections were the best score and the bullseye is the least - for Maya  the day was all about Mastery - Maya spent the day sculpting - Maya had never used clay before - she created a beautiful horse - we had seen one go by in the morning  - she made the horse a field, a bed and something to eat.

At the end of the day Sara interviewed some of the children who had experienced the journey and this is what they said:

Wills best bit: "Playing with bubbles"

Wills worst bit: "Liked everything"

Deans best bit: "Videos, playing in truck, camera."

Deans worst bit: "Didn't like mud."

Alex's best bit: "Getting wet."

Alex' s worst bit: "Rain"!

Jasons best bit: "Truck and funny films"

Jasons worst bit: "Nuffing"

Sara asked the children and young people what they would like to see happen in their Creative Play Journey back at their site and this is what they said:

"Painting" x2 - "Splashing Paint"- "Keeping busy" - "Going out." - "The Truck" - "Animation

And they got Godzilla!:
